I cannot say with certainty that I have identified Moe in the movie either but I think that is him in the scene I refer to.

Episode of What's My Line with Harold Lloyd as the mystery guest. Dated April 26th 1953. Includes promotion for the re-release of The Freshman. At the end when he shakes everyone's hand, you can clearly see his missing forefinger and thumb. Lloyd performed all his stunts with the use of a prosthetic glove, hiding his injuries which resulted from a freak accident in 1919.

Harold Lloyd is my favorite comedian, my favorite movie of his is "Why Worry"? we saw it in a Hollywood movie theater and as someone mentioned in his comments here, it is soooo hilarious to watch Harold Lloyd movies at a theater with a bunch of people, I mean, to hear everyone laugh just makes if even funnier! He was the greatest and you are very lucky to be related to him!

By: chickglenn07. on 22 Dec 10, 17:58:36 Seeing my great uncle extend his right hand out to shake each one of the panels hands was a releif, because for so long during his career he hid the fact of his injured hand from the public. He did not want the moviegoinig public to come see his films out of pity. He was? very adiment about his films being the very best they could be. So he hid the injury by wearing a glove. the loss of the finger and thumb is an involed story about a mishap of a prop bomb loaded with live gunpowder.

Cool!? I never ... By: TroyOi. on 07 Oct 10, 06:22:57 Cool!? I never knew that. I guess addition of sound was to the late 20's what colorization was to the 90's - a way to rejuvenate a film and make it more appealing to new audiences. (Although I suppose cynics might have seen it as just a way for studios to milk more profits out of a given property.)
As I suspect your username is a good indication of your avocation, perhaps you know: Were there purists back then who opposed sound-syncing, just as some today despise colorization?
it was done with ... By: filmaddict818. on 07 Oct 10, 01:51:19 it was done with the dawn of sound. Many silent features were re-released with lip syncing. The most popular silent films had this done such as 'The Phantom of the Opera' from 1925 which was re-released in 1929 with synchronised sound, and 'Disraeli' in 1929? with George Arliss. They also did it with the Lon Chaney/Tod Browning feature 'The Unholy Three'.

I wondered whether ... By: karlakor. on 23 May 10, 00:07:29 I wondered whether anyone would comment on the loss of his fingers, and I did notice the camera angle that avoided showing Lloyd's hand. I think he wore gloves in his movies to disguise the fact that there were fingers? missing.
You're correct. ... By: MrWilliamtom. on 17 May 10, 02:26:40 You're correct. Watching this episode, it was almost like the cameraman did not know what to do with himself because his job was to zoom in on the guest signing in. The director did not want to gross out the audience because Mr. Lloyd was missing fingers on his hand. The same effect was later done with Bill Cullen during his entrances because he had childhood polio and had? difficulty walking. The cameras would never photograph him walking.

Really fun to see it with an audience too, very different from just sitting at home watching it on DVD. The films really held up well and the audience loved them. Before the show, Leonard Maltin did an interview with Lloyd's granddaughter, Suzanne.
5? years ago, I saw ... By: soulierinvestments. on 16 May 10, 05:22:29 5? years ago, I saw "The Freshman" in an auditorium with an organ accompaniment . It had a sophisticated audience -- and they loved it! Haven't seen a movie since that got so many laughs as did "The Freshman" from that audience.
I wonder if the producers prevailed on Lloyd to appear at the last minute, because Lloyd doesn't have a name plate to identify him. WML provided guests such nameplates from 1950 to 1955. The director rarely superimposed a guest's signature over his face on WML.
Those? who watch ... By: soulierinvestments. on 16 May 10, 05:11:13 Those? who watch WML regularly will notice the camera does not (as it usually does) do a tight close up on the guest's hand writing his name.
From Wikipedia's biography, Lloyd injured himself in 1919 during the filming of "Haunted Spooks" when an accident with a prop bomb resulted in the loss of the thumb and index finger of his right hand. When Lloyd shakes hands with the panel at the end, that disfigurement appears clearly.
