I live in Sydney, Australia, and one day this bird was in a tree outside my verandah. We didn't have a clue what it was, but the fantastic YouTube community told is it was a Channel Billed Cuckoo. They sound Hideous. The other sound is the Noisy Mynahs which were trying to scare it off.
noisy miners chase ... By: crocdoc2. on 04 Oct 11, 22:58:32 noisy miners chase anything they deem to be a predator and channel-bills are the right size (although they do occasionally eat? eggs). Channel-bills wouldn't be likely to lay eggs in a miner nest, as miners are too small.

I live in Sydney ... By: pequenocaracol000. on 16 Jan 11, 07:55:45 I live in Sydney and these birds have been visiting us for quite a few years now. I thought they were were great until I? recently learnt what they were.. ugh Wishing now that I was still in ignorant bliss. I was told this was not a native bird but visited Australia from Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. I am now not so keen on these birds and love that our little noisy miners and all the other birds in the area unite to protect their nests. A good hosing sounds mild and appropriate to me.
andromeda is right, ... By: InfiniteStars107. on 09 Jul 09, 10:07:19 andromeda is right, that's a Channel Billed Cuckoo, and they are Australian natives, although they do migrate up north during winter. I'm a wildlife rehabber on the MNC of NSW and I raised an orphaned one two years ago-- it's one of the most charming and playful? babies I've ever worked with. He was successfully released and was doing well, found other CBCs and went off with them,.
I named him "Eagle" because that's what the people who first found him on the ground abandoned thought he was. :)

By: andrommeeda. on 18 Jan 08, 23:51:05 It is an Australian bird and the Noisy Minors were trying? to scare it off for 2 reasons, Noisy Minors are territorial and Cuckoos are parasitic in that they lay their eggs in the nests of other bird species. The cuckoo chicks then throw out the host's eggs.
