Been watching orchestras all night on Youtube. Gergiev is the first conductor that I could manage to follow the beat/tempo to him movements so far. Seems odd. I find myself wanting to go to the? Chicago Museum of Art now.

I also meant that Mussorgsky composed this piece for piano? in 1874, the french composer Maurice Ravel elaborated the version for orchestra in 1922 ( and Emerson Lake and Palmer in modern rock in 1971) Greetings from Italy ( and French Antilles) :=))

the menacing 'meno mosso' after the opening is basically in the same tempo as the 'vivo', because one measure of the 'vivo' equals one half note of the 'meno mosso'. this gives the impression that? 'gnomus' is in one tempo, which it is not (at least in the ravel orchestration).
