Before Islam came to Iran, Zoroastrians buried their dead by placing them on a high place and waited for huma birds to come and eat them. Therefore, huma was considered to be a holy animal and also referred to as the bird? of fortune (????? ???????). So, you are right that huma is a bird of fortune. However, the very fact that it feeds on the dead makes it the bird of fortune. I thought "Homa" ...
