I recently sang Dr. Bartolo with the Amore Opera. Here's Bartolo's Aria. I'm joined by Patrice Eaton and the Amore Opera Orchestra, conducted by Alex Guzman.
This was one of the songs that helped me get sober almost 10 years ago. Recorded live on May 15th, 2010 at St John's In The Village. We didn't expect encores, so my accompanist, who also did the recording, had stopped, and had to scramble to restart.
One of loveliest songs that Stephen Foster wrote, recorded live at St John's In The Village on May 15th. My wonderful accompanist, Amir Khosrowpour, can be reached at http://www.amirpiano .com. All of the photos in this video were taken by me in Connecticut. My photography store can be seen at http://so-snapped.im agekind.com
I remixed this to increase the volume a little. This was recorded live at St John's In The Village on May 15th, 2010. My lovely accompanist, Amir Khosrowpour, can be reached at http://www.amirpiano .com
A lovely song and I have two theories about it. I seem to recall reading somewhere (and can't for the life of me remember the source) that it was about a sailor and his dog. But others have suggested Maggie is a woman. I tend to go with the former, because I don't believe many women went sailing in the 1850s.
I had a real problem picking songs for my recital, since so many of Foster's songs were sad, which is understandable given the times. This song seemed to be lass lugubrious until I realized it was about someone who has outlived his friends and family.

However, are you implying that "the times," i.e. the 19th century was sad? That's no more true of one time than any? other. In fact, there was quite a lot to be happy about in those "times" and there are so many sad songs today.....
Another charming Stephen Foster song, with photos by me. Recorded live at St John's In The Village on May 15th, 2010. Mr. Khosrowpour may be reached through http://www.amirpiano .com

Foster as the author of the tune. It is not known whether that was an innocent? error or duplicity was the motivation (for the credit)

The Images in the video are of Charles Coborn, who was a music hall star and made this song famous (not to be confused with character actor Charles Coburn). Recorded live at St John's In The Village.
Everyone knows this song, but few people know the verses or that it was written by Effie I. Canning. Recorded live at St. John's In The Village on May 15th, 2010 by Sanford Eliot Schimel, Baritone and Amir Kohsrowpour, Piano.

I'm very curious about your interest in the music of this era. These are songs of my Dad's childhood, and so in turn of mine, thanks to Dad's phenomenal musical memory.? And I did know the verses, but I'd forgotten I did until I heard you sing them.

Berthe Auguez de Montalant, recorded in 1909, from EMI's invaluable Les Urnes de l'Opera, singing one of my favorite arias. D'amour l'ardente flamme from Berlioz' Damnation of Faust.
