By: Lostinthefog87. on 06 Mar 12, 11:44:54 Any individual (regardless of color) who supports any type of race based privledge, private? or public, is inherently and fundamentally, a racist. Both people interviewed in this video, Dr. Hill and the young white guy, are racists. The very concept of race should be thrown out in the ash heap of history, as we did with slavery. It is a barbaric categorization that is based on culture, not science. It is a physical characteristic that holds no bearing on how we conduct ourselves as individuals.
Let's have ecomomic ... By: Lostinthefog87. on 06 Mar 12, 11:35:58 Let's have ecomomic based affirmative action instead.? Currently, a rich black kid with two parents who are physicians has a better advantage in getting into some colleges than a poor Cambodian who barely has enough money to eat. There is something seriously wrong with the idea that skin pigment alone has any weight in defining who someone is as a person. Remember what MLK Jr. fought for: colorblindness and equality! Not different and unequal treatment for individuals based on skin pigment.

You're so busy putting words in my mouth there's probably not much of a reason to talk anyway. I am spending most of my time saying "I didn't say that...." Reverse racism is undeniably racism. You want to claim? some kind of monopoly on racism and injustice so you can have free stuff and an easier life. Anyone who thinks whites get a free ride in life is delusional.
@ ... By: somedudeinva. on 28 Nov 11, 16:53:09 @chocolatebarbiedoll1 You have a weird idea of what a "level" playing field is. A level playing field is one where they all follow the same rules. It's really not that hard. Stop whining about your lot in life and go fix it yourself. I know a great many well-educated minorities. The biggest thing in their way is people like you.

We also live in a global economy where we can and do import any shortfalls in farm goods. Do you think those peaches you get in the middle of winter are grown in the U.S.?

They were implemented a long time ago to keep farmers farming. The U.S. government realized that because of market fluctuations,? farmers would be less inclined to grow a certain crop should the market have a less than profitable outcome. Meaning, if you were a farmer, market turns south 3 years in a row, you are definitely considering a career change. What would happen if all the farmers suddenly became carpenters? Subsidies keep people where they are.

Honestly, please set aside your ideology for a minute and think about it. I'm sure you've heard that a price is set where supply equal demand. Another way to say that would be you set the price where it would begin to lower demand if it went any higher.

Wrong. Health care? inflation is 200%, yet you don't seem to be worried about that in the least. Student loans are an investment in the entire economy, while the out of control inflation in health care is a gigantic drag on the economy. But then again, your right-wing media handlers won't tell you that so you're not aware of it. Go ahead and post some more right-wing canards if it pleases you.
Good point. I ... By: kaysandesses. on 24 May 12, 15:17:18 Good point. I figured out a long time ago that freesk8 doesn't let facts get in the way of his preconceived notions about Topic X. It's sad that some people go through life afraid of the various boogie men hiding here and there. He and his ilk will rail on about this mythical out of pace inflation with student loans but they never seem to? mention how health costs increase at twice the rate of inflation and will only be brought into check by more gov. intervention in that industry.
He "feels" it must ... By: shalcall. on 24 May 12, 01:37:17 He "feels" it must be government. He has no evidence, and I know he has no evidence, because? there is no evidence showing government student loans are behind the rise in college tuition. And if he bothered to compare the growth in gov't backed student loans, he would see they have NOT kept pace at all with the growth in college tuition.
Govt is always less ... By: shalcall. on 24 May 12, 01:35:00 Govt is always less efficient? This is pure ass talk, meaning you're talking out of your ass. You state this because it's your ideology, but it has no basis in reality. Student loans through direct gov't loans is both cheaper for the? student and the government. There are also other programs that run more efficiently than their private sector counterparts. Now that isn't the case with all gov't programs, but your ideology that private is always better is just wrong.

The general cumulative inflation amount has been 75%. Housing inflation has also been 75%, even after the housing price collapse. The value of a 4-year college degree has been falling at the same time. Usually, when the benefit or value of something fall, the price falls. But not if there is a govt subsidy. Why do YOU think tuition inflation is four times the ambient level?
"This allows them ... By: kaysandesses. on 23 May 12, 19:25:24 "This allows them to jack up their tuition. "

I guess that helps to explain why Medicare is the most efficient health insurance entity in the U.S. Over 96% of premiums are paid out as benefits. ? The closest any private insurer can get is the low 80's.

Ah, but you see the ... By: freesk8. on 23 May 12, 04:09:21 Ah, but you see the govt is far less efficient at administering any program than is the private sector. The profit margin (often 5-10%) is usually dwarfed by the reduction in efficiency due to making it a govt program. Again, these inefficiencies are paid for by taxpayers, and this further reduces employment for the poor. Any below-market interest rate constitutes a partial subsidy, even if the loan is? fully repaid.
And you don't seem ... By: shalcall. on 23 May 12, 03:16:40 And you don't seem to understand interest rates or my point. A large part of an interest rate is risk premium but part of it is profit margin. In the private sector the interest rate must be high? enough to cover losses from some people and still make a profit overall given risk factors. The government is not interested in a profit margin, so the interest rate offered through gov't should necessarily be lower.
And please understand, these are LOANS, not subsidies.
Not trolling. You ... By: freesk8. on 23 May 12, 02:32:34 Not trolling. You just don't understand my point. A loan given to someone at a below market rate is a subsidy to the extent that the interest rate is artificially low. If no one in the private sector would grant a loan at ANY interest rate, then the entire loan is really subsidy. Some students are that risky. If the money comes back to college students many times over, then no govt subsidy is necessary. And if all you care about is govt receipts,? that is not the purpose of education.
I'm sorry, do you ... By: shalcall. on 23 May 12, 00:47:29 I'm sorry, do you know what the definition of a loan is? ? Because you keep equating loans and subsidies. Moreover, even if you're talking about grants, it's been shown over and over again, in study after academic study that money government invests in college students comes back to them multiple times over in higher tax receipts from those college graduates. I have to assume you're just trolling at this point.
Keep an eye on the ... By: freesk8. on 23 May 12, 00:38:33 Keep an eye on the government, then tell me in a few years if you still think it is responsive even to the will of? the minority who do vote.
Here is how student loans destroy jobs: colleges compete for students because they know they come with profitable govt loans. This allows them to jack up their tuition. These subsidies come from taxpayers, and increasing taxes slows economic growth. This destroys jobs, especially at the low wage levels.
Yes, the government ... By: shalcall. on 23 May 12, 00:28:12 Yes, the government is us. When we start voting? at levels seen in the middle east, and start paying attention to what our politicians are doing, things like the drug war will end. What's ultimately killing our government is apathy, the 40 to 50% of eligible voters who can't be bothered to actually vote or take a look at their representatives.
And I've never heard of anyone stating that student loans destroy jobs. In what world does that happen? Because economics doesn't back that up.
Hmm. You still ... By: freesk8. on 23 May 12, 00:18:43 Hmm. You still feel that "the government is us?" I haven't met someone who really felt that way in a long time. Tell me, do you ever watch the news? Now that the Mideast wars and the drug war are unpopular, under your view they should be? ending soon. That's good news! But I'm not holding my breath.
The economic policies you mention help banks and future rich people at the expense of average taxpayers. The taxes they require actually destroy jobs, which is the real way to help the poor.
Yes, I'm concerned ... By: shalcall. on 23 May 12, 00:15:44 Yes, I'm concerned about the welfare of government, because in this country, the government is us, and I'm concerned about us.
You state you care about the welfare of the poor, and yet you're against low interest student loans, which arguably do more to pull poor people into the middle class than any other government program. And while you may be socially liberal, your comments on government and the economy are pure right wing bullshit.?

I see you are very ... By: freesk8. on 22 May 12, 17:33:08 I see you are very concerned about the welfare of the government. I don't. I care about the welfare of the poor and for our rights. Your points are right, but? do not address or contradict my points.
And you can call my points "talking points" and "right wing ideology" (strange, because I am an anti-war, pro-choice atheist who supports marriage equality...) but that does not show me why they are wrong.
1. but a loan? made ... By: freesk8. on 22 May 12, 17:27:42 1. but a loan? made apart from the free market has no market discipline to determine the interest rate. I agree that our tax system is botched-up and that special interests should not get special deals. But this has nothing to do with student loans.
2. The vast majority of the benefits of a college degree accrue to the person who gets the degree. So giving them a subsidized loan is a subsidy to someone who will be richer than the average taxpayer. It's welfare for the future wealthy.

Basically I believe ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 18:39:30 Basically I believe this idea that economic mobility, aside from the expected challenges associated with any normal economic tough times, has been manufactured by the left, or greatly exaggerated at a minimum, to make people feel disadvantaged? somehow and requiring "change". Remember, politicians must justify their existence or they don't have a job.
Ok, i think we both ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 18:34:14 Ok, i think we both got a little off topic. You simply believe that economic mobility and is disappearing, but I believe the opposite. I believe if you want to create the next Facebook, you can. If you want to open a restaurant in your neighborhood, you can. Loans have come under more scrutiny in the wake of a huge financial crisis, but those who need them can still get them.? No where else in the world do you have as much economic freedom to prosper as in the United States.

By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 04:42:20 Also, I'm trying to be respectful here so we can actually listen to each others ideas, but when you say something like "retreating to nationalism" I can't help but think only a crazy person would say something like this. No offense, but you're? criticizing me for being proud of my country. The country has a lot of problems & I am confident we will ultimately work through them, but how can you knock someone for taking such a benign stance. I have faith in the country's opportunities, why hate?
Comparing the ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 04:19:34 Comparing the greatness of American capitalism to failing European socialism is really low. In Greece they live in an entitlement society because the people do not WANT to work.? They expect to retire at 45 and get free benefits and healthcare for the rest of their lives. But make no mistake about it, if we push ahead in Obama's direction, there will be less and less to "take" from to fund everyone's healthcare, SS, unemployment benefits & Food Stamps and we will follow in the path of Greece
I really, truly, ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 04:14:06 I really, truly, honestly, don't believe the trend, up until Obama's governance, has been weakening so-called "economic mobility". I can rattle enough hundreds of recent successes, some so obvious they are funny. Look at Vince Offer, the ShamWow TV commercial guy. he made it a few years back starting at flea markets? and now lives in multimillion dollar homes in LA and Miami. the American Dream is not dead, but Obama wants you to think it is so he can garner your vote.
First off,? let me ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 04:11:12 First off,? let me just get this out of the way. Rick Santorum is a clown and an asshole, and he should feel ashamed for staying in a race that he knew he couldn't win, which only served to divide the party he was running in. That's as much as I wish to say about him.
Because Obama grew? ... By: swagswagswag5. on 20 May 12, 04:06:23 Because Obama grew? up in a different time. And you cant point to one man's success as an excuse to ignore general trends. Again, middle class income declined 7% in ten years. We have less economic mobility today than most of Europe. Even Rick Santorum could admit that. Pointing out these issues isnt class-warfare, its common sense.
And instead of retreating to nationalism, how about you actually come up with something of substance. Impugning someone's patriotism is the tool of the desperate.
And yes, I do ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 03:54:49 And yes, I do believe Obama had a relatively easy childhood compared to a lot of? other people in this world. He writes about experimenting with pot and doing blow-- real tough childhood.
I don't agree. If ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 03:52:36 I don't agree. If there was no "economic mobility", how did Obama get to where he is? If there was no "economic mobility", why are more entrepreneurs and small businesses than ever before? Just because income inequality has increased in recent decades, does not mean that "economic mobility" has disappeared.? It just means the opportunities are bigger than ever before. The difference between me and you is, I still believe in the power of America and the power of people to lift themselves up.
*economic mobility? By: swagswagswag5. on 20 May 12, 03:41:44 *economic mobility?
On a scholarship. ... By: swagswagswag5. on 20 May 12, 03:41:10 On a scholarship. And that doesnt negate everything else about Romney and why he did not live a very tough life, whereas Obama obviously did not have a cushy childhood.
And railing against the fact that America? now has less economic than France is NOT railing against the rich. Railing against the fact that middle class income FELL 7% during the last decade isnt class-warfare (look it up). The American Dream is slowly turning into a nightmare and calling attention to that isnt class warfare.
And to bring it ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 03:40:22 And to bring it full circle, the same applies to Biden in this video above. Who is he? referring to when he says "us"? He's a millionaire himself, and a cheap one at that. Whereas Romney donates millions to charity each year (to his Mormon church AND millions to other charities), Biden gave $369 last year. That is not a typo. The sad truth is, Biden is a huge snake oil salesman and doesn't give a shit about the poor. He laughs with a bigass grin when he walks off the stage.
Obama went to a ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 03:35:39 Obama went to a prep school too. Two can play this game :) I really don't think not having a father? -- as much as I sympathize -- can be compared to the kind of struggles that many other people endure, even in this country. In any event, Romney isn't claiming to be something he's not. He fully embraces that he has made a lot of money and this country has been fortunate to him. It's Obama who is using divisive politics to rail against the rich, when he is anything but poor.
You asked me how ... By: swagswagswag5. on 20 May 12, 03:19:51 You asked me how Obama could have struggled in his life, I named things about his life that weren't pleasant, such as not having a father, indisputably a tough thing to live with, and not feeling like you could fit in.
Romney grew up a? privileged kid, his dad was the head of an auto-company and a governor, he went to a nice prep school, belonged to a very close knit religious community, ran away to France when the Vietnam war was raging and made a lot of money shipping jobs overseas.
"outsiderness"? ... By: eepiyk. on 20 May 12, 02:43:59 "outsiderness"? Please.. anyone could feel more like an outsider hunting for a job nowadays than Obama has ever felt. Don't kid yourself man, America's been very good to Obama but he would like? you to forget about that. This country gave him the most prestigious education in the world, let him sell books for $millions, run massive public campaigns using taxpayer $, this all BEFORE he came to office. His kids get private education at UofC & his wife wears $500 shoes. Gee, rough system, aint it?
He grew up without ... By: swagswagswag5. on 20 May 12, 01:43:41 He grew up without a father for one thing. His mother didn't make a whole lot of money and he often had to get dropped off to live with his grandparents b/c his mom was too busy working. He wasnt poor, but he grew up lower middle class by most accounts. As a kid he often had trouble with the fact that he did not fit clearly into either the black or white? community, leading to a sense of "outsiderness" He clearly did not grow up a privileged child, unlike Romney.

Is it any wonder that Obama became head of Harvard Law review? by being ELECTED? This info comes straight from Harvard Law's website. Campaigning to get elected is what Obama does best. African Americans cried out for help and warned the country but were (and still are) ignored by most. We've adapted, now so must you.

He thinks sweat shops are "keen," that the US freeing of slaves was "unconstitutional," and that Americans have a "right" to racial discrimination in jobs, housing, and education. Do you know why Ron ... By: dan91709. on 18 May 12, 15:11:33 Do you know why Ron Paul doesn't trust mathematics?
Answer: because he thinks it's too Jewish.
He'd much rather believe silly nonsense like a "Jewish conspiracy" to control currency than try to understand a mathematical formulation used to balance liquidity. That's fine, as long as he's a little old man shivering in the back of his survivalist shack with his white supremacist buddies - but most Americans have no trouble recognizing that he's a? twit.

Simple fact: as the ... By: dan91709. on 18 May 12, 15:01:40 Simple fact: as the economy grows, currency MUST inflate to equalize availability. If not, then DEFLATION is the result. Deflation is the process by? which currency becomes more valuable with time, thus impeding liquidity and causing interest rates to compensate for the projected increased value of currency over time. In the past, mortgage rates were as high as 22%.
Ron Paul believes mathematics CAN'T be applied to economics. Look up "Austrian Economics" and you'll see this is a fact.

In 2004 Karl Rove managed to put gay marriage on as many state ballots as possible to make sure all the shit-kicker gay-haters would turn out to vote against boys kissing, and hang around long enough to pull the lever for Bungles The Clown Bush. It worked.
And If Obama wants to activate the left, this is exactly what he should do, along with de-criminalizing pot

By: TrollBuster9090. on 15 May 12, 01:07:44 If Civil Rights were up for public referendum I would probably STILL have a couple of black slaves cleaning my house, polishing my shoes, and picking my cash crops. By: TrollBuster9090. on 15 May 12, 01:00:37 Actually, most of the Constitutional rights that have been lost have been lost as a result of the five activist conservative asswipes on the Supreme Court. MY civil rights aren't [supposed to be] up for public opinion; they are immutable. This state's rights game goes against the very principles this country was founded on. I'm black and I agree than there should be scholarships for white people only. I am firmly against the scholarship for white men only for the simple reason that, from what black groups have told me, there are very few poor white males in the USA but many poor black males in the USA. I? am not racist and am for everyone having an equal opportunity. Therefore, I would of course support scholarship for white men only if there were more than just a few poor white men in the USA, but that is simply not the case. Almost all white people are middle class or rich.

Any individual (regardless of color) who supports any type of race based privledge, private? or public, is inherently and fundamentally, a racist.
By: Lostinthefog87. on 06 Mar 12, 11:35:58
Let's have ecomomic based affirmative action instead.? Currently, a rich black kid with two parents who are physicians has a better advantage in getting into some colleges than a poor Cambodian who barely has enough money to eat. There is something seriously wrong with the idea that skin pigment alone has any weight in defining who someone is as a person. Remember what MLK Jr. fought for: colorblindness and equality! Not different and unequal treatment for individuals based on skin pigment.

College is not for everybody, only for those who want it. So? if you really want to go to college STUDY AND GET VERY GOOD GRADES. Don't waste your time victimizing yourself or making trouble. STUDYYY ! !

If its all about financial disadvantage, which is what everything the black guy said boiled down to, then why not make it INCOME based? why even involve? race? They always play the race card.

You can't write that much shit and pretend not be mad. You can blame whites till your blue in the face not that we could tell but the fact is without whites you'd be living in a mud hut in Africa. You've simply been politicized with a giant chip on your shoulder, you are very? much a tool of white folks in that way. Black victimology was not constructed by blacks but rather whites trying to manipulate blacks into a certain political ideology.

@chocolatebarbiedoll1 Do you want to debate or not? Why are you still answering me if you don't want to hear my opinion? You're so busy putting words in my mouth there's probably not much of a reason to talk anyway. I am spending most of my time saying "I didn't say that...." It's also hard to debate when your message is split over several different comments (not your fault, just a youtube limitation). If you want to debate further, private message me. Otherwise, I wish? you well.

@chocolatebarbiedoll1 Wow, thanks. Alright? then, bye.

@chocolatebarbiedoll1 I didn't say that either. I said I am not? in your way. Why are you trying to convince me you are a good, smart hard working person? I never doubted you. I never said half of the stuff you're claiming I said. I had to pay 100% for my college too. So?

@chocolatebarbiedoll1 What are you talking about? You're whining about who makes what money. Asians actually make more money than whites. Am I complaining about it? No. Are? there racists who hate Asians? Certainly. But Asians are not a protected class that everyone always feels the need to coddle, so they work and work and rise above all that crap. I hope you can do the same. I sincerely wish you well. I'm not in your way at all.

@chocolatebarbiedoll1 You can have a private scholarship for anything you like, no matter how distasteful. You can found a private scholarship for blacks, whites, tall people, animal abusers, or people named Katherine. Reverse racism is undeniably racism. You want to claim? some kind of monopoly on racism and injustice so you can have free stuff and an easier life. Anyone who thinks whites get a free ride in life is delusional.

@chocolatebarbiedoll1 You have a weird idea of what a "level" playing field is. A level playing field is one where they all follow the same rules. An uneven playing field would be one where one team's goal was larger than the other, or were allowed more? players, or some other kind of penalty or advantage. It's really not that hard. Stop whining about your lot in life and go fix it yourself. I know a great many well-educated minorities. The biggest thing in their way is people like you.

Lets get race out of the freaking equation all together. I remeber a scholarship offered at my school that was something like Ethnic Scholarship or something. My Shoshoni (native american) friend made a hilarious? comment that I loved. He called it the "I'm not white award" which was accurate because the scholarship was based on race/ethnicity.

Jealous of? what? I worked to pay for my college.
